Please join us in the sanctuary on Sunday, June 21st, for a special congregation meeting.  We will welcome the Rev. Josh Privitt to ERUCC, and he will lead us in worship at both the 8:30 and 10:30 services.  Immediately following the 10:30 service, at approximately 11:30, we will convene a congregational meeting in the sanctuary.  The only item on the agenda will be to vote to call the Rev. Josh Privitt as the next Settled Senior Pastor of ERUCC.  The votes will be tallied immediately and the results announced. Lunch will be served immediately following the meeting.

The Rev. Josh Privitt will be preaching and leading worship. The Senior Choir will sing.

Romans 5:1-8  | Matthew 9:35-10:8

We intend this service to be intentional around naming and reconciling the actions and emotions of the past, with our hearts bent towards moving to wholeness as a community of faith. Our strength as a church is our people, and we best meet the challenge of loving our neighbor when we can act lovingly to all, especially our own congregants. Please join us as we set our hearts toward the work of reconciliation as we prepare to be led by a new shepherd as one healthy, loving Body of Christ.

Our associate conference minister, Rev. Sheresa Simpson-Rice will co-lead the service alongside our associate pastor, Pastor Kirstin Shrom-Rhoads. Spirit will sing with accompaniment from Laura Walling and Joe Baker. We will also be collecting Pack the Pantry items.

Isaiah 65:17-25 | Luke 21:5-19

How do we seek the prophet Isaiah’s “peaceable kingdom” in the midst of the wars, insurrection, and persecution Jesus foretold in the Gospel of Luke?

We will share in Holy Communion at the chancel rail this morning. The Rev. Shelley Weakly will be preaching and leading worship. The Senior Choir will sing.

Philippians 2:1-8 | Matthew 20:25-28

A sense of awe can include witnessing acts of “moral beauty.” Jesus’ life was an example of moral beauty–a ministry of lifting up the cause of the lowly and advocating for the power of peace and justice. Research shows that when we witness with awe others’ kindness, courage, strength, and overcoming, we are more likely to feel inspired to give ourselves in service of the good. We become more self-giving, more ready to lend a helping hand or commit energy to making the world a better place.

The Rev. David Cooney, Ph.D. will be preaching and leading worship. The Senior Choir will sing.

Psalm 149  |  Mark 11:1-10 | Acts 2:1-17, 21

On Pentecost Sunday, Christians around the world celebrate the formation of the church when the Holy Spirit called people into community as Christ’s body and blessed them with universal understanding of languages. Some theologians describe Pentecost as the Church’s birthday. Others describe it as a “big bang” that brought the Church into being, for just as God’s Spirit came rushing into the world over the waters of creation, in Acts 2, God’s Spirit rushes into the world to gather and transform God’s people.

So where does that leave us? If we are willing to be amazed, Pentecost is one of the most awe-inspiring days in our Christian calendar. If we are willing to be transformed, it is an opportunity to be renewed in energy and faithfulness toward the work of God’s kingdom on earth when all people will experience true liberation and boundless love.

The Rev. Kirstin Shrom-Rhoads will be preaching and leading worship.  The Senior Choir will sing. We will receive the Strengthen Our Church Offering. You are encouraged to wear red!

We humans love repetition… up to a point. But sometimes we just need a good “Wow!” and some goosebumps to help us feel fully alive. Our physical response to awe-filled moments come from a very ancient part of our evolution–even before language. And those goosebumps? They helped us forge connections with others as we faced the vast mysteries of life together. Delight still plays an important role in our spiritual needs and in our sense of a deeply relational life.

The Rev. Suzanne Adele Schmidt, Ph.D. will be preaching and leading worship.  The Senior Choir will sing.

The element of curiosity is linked to wellbeing of all kinds–spiritually, mentally, creatively. Awe-filled experiences are curiosity-boosters. Play, imagination, experimentation, and even simply slowing down to “linger longer” as we engage with the sights and sounds and smells of our ordinary surroundings can add to the amount of awe in our lives. Curiosity resists easy labeling and classifying, rather it invites us to deeper discovery about life, faith, and each other.

The Rev. John Shillingburg with be preaching and leading worship.  Spirit will sing.

We humans are “meaning-mongers.” Our brains are wired to interpret the ordinary stuff of life in metaphorical ways so that we can make some sense of it all. We long for meaningful lives in which we are more sure about the direction of our lives and about what we are to bring to this world. We yearn for experiences that leave us feeling more fulfilled. When we are “on the lookout” for meaning in our lives, we live at a deeper level and mere existence turns into purpose.

We will share in Holy Communion at the chancel rail this morning. The Rev. Dr. Rebecca Shillingburg will be preaching and leading worship. The Senior Choir will sing.
