Hebrews 13:8, 15-16 | Luke 14:1, 7-14

In the letter to the Hebrews 13:1 8, 15–16, the author urges mutual love to be the basis of communal relationships, and particularly to remember those in prison and peril, welcoming strangers and doing good and sharing what they have, following Christ’s example. Our Gospel Lesson for this Sunday is Luke 14:1, 7-14. Dining at the house of a Pharisee, Jesus notes how the guests jockey for a good position at the table. This leads Jesus to teach on the virtue of humility.

The ERUCC Summertide Choir will sing.

Hebrews 12:18-29  |  Luke 13:10-17

God breaks into our world and shakes things up. When Jesus reaches out to the woman who is bent over and proclaims she is “set free,” we rejoice in our liberation as well. We are set free to respond to God’s call and participate fully in the new life of God’s healing reign. Jesus welcomes, loves, and restores. What is our call to discipleship in the new life that Jesus brings?

We will welcome Julianne Rose Black and Hudson Robert Black through the Sacrament of Baptism. Julianne and Hudson are the children of Robert and Molly Black. The ERUCC Summertide Choir will sing.

Isaiah 1:1, 10-20 | Luke 12:49-56

The readings today invite reflection on the sources of strength and encouragement that God provides to restore and guide as we take up our role as disciples. There are both joys and trials in choosing a life of faithfulness, and we give thanks for the great cloud of people of faith who journey with us in God’s realm.

The Rev. Michelle Beadle will preach and lead worship. The ERUCC Summertide Choir will sing.

Hebrews 11:1-3, 8-16  |  Luke 12:32-40

As God calls us to claim our roles as disciples, our response is grounded in faith. What is this faith? In the readings today, we encounter the dynamic nature of faith and its expression in the lives of individuals and communities. We live in the assurance of faith as we await the fullness of the reign of God. This week, we are encouraged again to look to the example of faithful witnesses for the assurance we need to keep hoping and believing.

The ERUCC Summertide Choir will sing.

Psalm 49:1-9 | Luke 12:13-21

This week’s readings challenge us to place our trust entirely in God. God does provide, and often God provides for others through us. How does life under the reign of God empower us to live in trust that we will have enough, not only for ourselves but also to share with the community?

We will share in communion at the chancel rail. The Rev. Dr. Rebecca Shillingburg will preach and lead worship. The ERUCC Summertide Choir will sing.

Psalm 85  |  Luke 11:1-13

Prayer is at the heart of discipleship. Prayer is at the heart of our relationship with God. The readings for today lift up God’s nature of love and compassion; they assure us of God’s readiness to hear and attend to our prayers. As we pray, we know God more fully, and as we know God more fully, we pray confidently and with persistence.

Today we will be receiving new members into the life of the church. The ERUCC Summertide Choir will sing.

Psalm 52 | Luke 10:38-42

The call to take up the role of discipleship encompasses a call to ground our daily living in the word of God. Each day, there are opportunities to hear and follow God’s word, if only we pause and listen. The action of faithful discipleship is informed by reflection on Christ and the way of God’s realm.

The ERUCC Summertide Choir will sing.

Amos 7:7-15  |  Luke 10:25–37

This week’s readings invite us to consider how love and compassion are the essence of living faithfully. They call us to shape our lives according to God’s justice and mercy, striving for relationships that enable community. God’s word has ultimate authority and responding to God’s call for justice and compassion is everything.

The Rev. David Cooney will preach and lead worship. The ERUCC Summertide Choir will sing.
