October 2021 Green Team News

Sunday October 3  Fellowship Hour

COMPOSTING!  Yes! Composting is back!  Washing dishes is back!   Composting cuts the amount of food waste going to the landfill thereby reducing the carbon emissions and methane gas. Using real dishes an also reduces waste.  Look for signs as to where to place your food waste and paper napkins.   You can help by volunteering to help with dishwashing and clean up on any Sunday.

Wednesday October 6   9:00 -11:00 am

Frederick Food Security Network Garden   Come help put the garden to bed for the winter.  David Muns, the garden manager would truly appreciate help one last time.  The garden is located on the property of the Frederick News Post at 351 Ballenger Center Dr.  Meet at the far end of the parking lot diagonally away from the FNP building.   Bring work gloves and water.  Contact Linda Coyle (lkcoyle@yahoo.com) if you need more information.

Saturday October 9      9:00 – 11:00 am

Streamlink Tree Planting  16683 Creamery Road, Emmitsburg, MD

Streamlink is holding five large planting this fall and we are volunteering for the first one.

Let Linda Coyle (lkcoyle@yahoo.com) or any member of the Green Team know you are coming.  This is great way for us to work together to care for the earth and Streamlink makes it easy!

Tree-planting events are fun for all ages.  Families are welcome!

These plantings will create a forest that will help protect cold-water trout streams from stormwater runoff. This project has a direct impact on the health of the Chesapeake Bay. Come learn how and be a part of this large-scale local initiative to reforest 30 acres of Frederick County streamsides!

What to bring: garden gloves, sun protection, and water to stay hydrated. Wear closed-toed shoes and dress for the weather. We will plant rain or shine! The holes are pre-dug so no shovels are necessary.
